The attempt to increase the number of seats in the Parliament and the State Legislative Assemblies under the guise of providing 33% reservation for women is driven by ulterior motives, said Senior CPI leader R. Mutharasan in Dindigul on Wednesday.

Criticising the BJP-led Central government, Mr. Mutharasan said this could be implemented from the existing number of seats. The BJP was plotting to remain in power permanently by reducing the number of seats in the Southern States and increasing the number of seats in the Northern States. The Southern States, including Tamil Nadu will be affected, he said.
