Chains snatched from women, including a BJP functionary, in Salem

Unidentified persons snatched gold chains from two women, including a BJP functionary, in Salem on Wednesday (April 16, 2026).

According to the police, S. Jayalakshmi (41), a resident of Moongilpadi near Omalur, is the president of the BJP Omalur East union. On Wednesday afternoon, she went to the BJP office at Omalur and later was headed to her house on a two-wheeler. When she reached Attukaranur, two persons who came on a two-wheller pushed her down from her vehicle and snatched her five-sovereign gold chain and fled from the spot. The Karuppur police registered a case and are on the lookout for the culprits.
