During a special drive to curb the use of mobile phones while driving on Puducherry roads, the Traffic Police have issued challans to around 302 vehicle users and imposed a total fine of ₹3 lakh for violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

In a release, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, D. Divya said the use of mobile phones while driving has emerged as an important factor in causing accidents. Analysis of accidents had brought to the understanding of authorities that ‘disturbed driving’ was one of the major reasons for road accidents. People are likely to get disturbed when they use mobile phones while driving vehicles.
