Manachanallur constituency in Tiruchi district is blessed with abundant water resources, thanks to the Cauvery and Kollidam rivers. But it faces several issues ranging from shortage of drinking water to basic infrastructure to agricultural and industrial challenges.

The constituency was formed in 2008 after the delimitation exercise by adding some areas from Thottiyam and Musiri Assembly segments. Agriculture and allied activities are the main livelihood of people here. But for Manachanallur and S. Kannanur (Samayapuram) town panchayats, all are villages. About 2,500 hectares along the Kollidam river have assured irrigation and the rest of the areas depend on seasonal rains. While the areas such as Manachanallur, Nochiyam and the villages located along the Tiruchi-Musiri are known for paddy and banana cultivation, the northern part of the constituency is dry in nature.
