The Delhi government has approved the construction of a flood protection wall along a 4.72-km stretch of the Ring Road between Majnu Ka Tila and the Old Railway Bridge, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Tuesday. The project is scheduled to be completed before the 2027 monsoon season. Once completed, the wall is expected to prevent the Yamuna from entering low-lying residential areas like Civil Lines, Kashmere Gate, Yamuna Bazaar and Majnu Ka Tila, which have historically been among the worst affected during floods. The Chief Minister said the decision was based on the city’s repeated experience of severe flooding and marked a shift towards a long-term solution rather than temporary measures.
