Drum beats grow louder as election month brings work for thudumbu and other band performers

As election campaigning gathers pace, the sound of drums has become a constant presence across parts of Coimbatore district, providing steady work for thudumbu artistes and other band performers.

Thudumbu is a percussion instrument native to the Kongu region, comprising Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Karur, Namakkal and Salem districts. Thudumbattam is the folk performance form associated with the instrument.
