Bargur Assembly constituency is predominantly agrarian, with sparse industrial distribution, except in Pochampalli. The constituency is drought-prone, and the agriculture sustained by borewell irrigation is turning dry due to depleting groundwater levels. Borewells that were struck at a couple of hundred feet is now being sunk anywhere up to 1,000 feet depth. For the constituents, the implementation of the Badethalaavaai canal project would help fill up 28 lakes from the run-off of River Thenpennai. The promise, of fulfilling the project, figured in the poll manifesto of the AIADMK in 2016, has not been implemented.
