Kerala Congress (M) chairperson Jose K. Mani on Monday described the Union government’s move to implement women’s reservation by 2029, along with a proposal to increase Lok Sabha seats by 50%, as a covert attempt by the BJP to weaken India’s federal structure and consolidate power at the national level. According to Mr. Mani, while the Women’s Reservation Bill would significantly advance women’s empowerment, the proposal to increase parliamentary seats under its guise would result in a major reduction in representation for northeastern and southern States in Parliament.
