The Press Club of India (PCI) on Monday (April 13, 2026) condemned the attack on the office of Assamese daily Asomiya Pratidin on Friday (April 10), amid the ongoing Assembly elections in Assam.

“What is noteworthy is that the vandalisation, carried out on the night of April 10 by unidentified persons at the newspaper’s Lakhimpur office, occurred just hours after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made public remarks against the Pratidin media group and an Assamese news channel, DY365,” said a PCI statement.
