The American Bureau of Industrial Technology announces that America’s motoring bill exceeded £2,800,000,000 last year. Four million motor-cars are now manufactured in America yearly, a quarter of a million cars are exported and the remainder are bought by Americans at an average price, including accessories, of £200. It costs the average American £140 annually to run his car. The following table shows America’s total motor-car expenditure in million pounds:—Cost of cars and accessories 750; depreciation 500; upkeep and repairs 400; chauffeurs’ wages 320; petrol 240; garages 180; taxes 125; tyres 123; interest on investment 100; oil 50; insurance 60. The total is 2,853 million pounds, which is twice as much as America’s annual investment in new buildings.—“The Statesman.” Published – April 13, 2026 04:07 am IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
