Panruti, the cashew capital of Tamil Nadu is gearing up for a high-stakes battle between the AIADMK and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). There are nine candidates in the fray, but the real fight is between K. Mohan of the AIADMK and Abdul Rahman of the VCK. T. Velmurugan, president of the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK), who won the seat on a Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) ticket in the 2001 and 2006 election, and in 2021 as part of the DMK-led alliance is not contesting this time. In the 2021 election, Mr. Velmurugan defeated Satya Panneerselvam of the AIADMK, by a margin of 4,967 votes.
