A number of hotels in Vizianagaram have revised their menu prices, citing shortage of LPG cylinders, burdening consumers. Earlier, a plate idli priced at ₹30 is now being sold at ₹45. Similarly, the cost of a dosa, which was ₹45 till March, has now been increased to ₹60. Onion dosa is being sold at ₹80 at a few eateries and restaurants in Vizianagaram city. The price of chapathi has been hiked by ₹10 and is now being sold for ₹60, against the earlier price of ₹50. The cost of a full meal has gone up from ₹130 to ₹150. Overall, the price hike ranges between 5% to 15% across hotels and eateries in the city.

B. Ramachandra Rao, a resident of Cantonment area said: “Hotels are fleecing customers under the pretext of cooking gas shortage and the ‘little enhancement’ of the domestic refill cost. The closure of many street food joints has become an advantage for hotels located at RTC complex, GT Road and other places.”
