The Forest Department has intensified night patrols and filling of water in troughs and percolation ponds in forests to reduce incidents of wild elephants entering villages in the summer. District Forest Officer N. Vengatesh Prabhu said a total of 18 border night patrol teams (BNPT) are conducting night patrols in the seven forest ranges of the Coimbatore Forest Division – Madukkarai, Boluvampatti, Coimbatore, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karamadai, Mettupalayam and Sirumugai.
