The commission has proposed that an inquiry should cover the complete process of electricity billing, payments and auditing at different levels by including all stakeholders. | Photo Credit: file photo The State Finance Commission (SFC) has recommended the government to conduct a high-level inquiry into electricity billing and payment with respect to street lights and drinking water supply of gram panchayats, expressing concern over huge discrepancies in billing and lack of coordination among authorities that has resulted in accruing of interest amount to thousands of crores. In its report, the three-member SFC, led by former MP, C. Narayanaswamy, has termed this interest burden as “avoidable”.
