Expressing confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would come back to power for an unprecedented third term by winning over 90 seats, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary M.V. Govindan said the speculation around high polling percentages in the Assembly elections was baseless. Addressing a press conference at the AKG Centre here on Sunday, he said that the incumbent MLAs of the LDF would emerge victorious as the voters had shown an intense wish for continuity.

Mr. Govindan refuted the speculation that a high polling percentage in the Assembly elections might be an indicator of a change in government. “The United Democratic Front (UDF) as well as sections of the media have been attempting to create an impression that a higher polling percentage is proof of anti-incumbency. However, if you compare the voter numbers with previous elections, you will realise that this claim is baseless. Compared to the 2021 Assembly elections, the number of voters has reduced considerably after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 94 constituencies. Out of this reduced number, 78.27% voters cast their votes. The polling was less in 71 constituencies compared to 2021,” said Mr. Govindan.
