ASHOK Ahead of the Chithirai festival, the temple cars of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple at ‘Thermutti’ on East Masi Street are being renovated with new wheels from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi. With just a week to go for the Chithirai Thiruvizha, preparations are under way for the 10-day festival, with one of its key events the car festival scheduled for April 29. The two massive temple cars are being readied. The cars – one for Lord Sundareswarar and the other for Goddess Meenakshi – have been brought out from the closed shed, with work under way to assemble the wooden framework that will be placed on the top of the cars.
