Ensconced on the banks of the Cauvery, Musiri is an agriculturally fertile belt known for its rich historical past. Settlement in the region dates back to Neolithic and Megalithic eras. In later periods, it was ruled by the Pallava, Chola, Pandya dynasties as well as Vijayanagara emperors.

Musiri boasts an unusual topography. The side that lies on the Cauvery is fertile enough to yield three harvests a year, say farmers. But agriculture in the northern side is dependent on rain.
