Having conveyed their long-pending demands to the mainstream contestants of the forthcoming Assembly polls, farmers’ associations in Kangayam Assembly constituency on Friday also expressed their resolve to stage protests, if the elected representative fails to deliver. The meeting conducted at Alambadi along Chennimalai Road witnessed farmers’ associations expressing their views on rectifying shortcomings in the Lower Bhavani Project Canal and Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) Canal projects, the pollution in Noyyal river, strengthening of the reach of Vattamalaikarai Odai, and on addressing the pollution caused by SIPCOT Industrial Estate at Perundurai. The farmers’ associations who had initially contemplated conduct of the meeting by inviting the contestants factored in the apprehensions of the district administration about unsavoury outcome, and decided to term the meeting a self-awareness exercise.
