The Animal Husbandry department, in coordination with the Asramam Sree Krishna Swamy Temple authorities, has completed comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Kollam Pooram on April 16. A total of 26 elephants will participate in the festivities this year, with Kadavoor Shivaraju set to carry the sacred idol (Thidambu). The department has issued a strict set of guidelines to ensure the safety of the public and the well-being of the participating elephants throughout the day’s events.

In an effort to prioritise safety, a mandatory 5-metre distance will be maintained between the elephants and the spectators using barricades, while a 3-m gap is required between each elephant. Following the Aanayoottu (elephant feeding ceremony) which begins at 11 a.m., special shower facilities have been arranged on the temple premises to provide a cooling bath for the tuskers before they move on to the ‘Thirumumbil Pooram’ and the much-anticipated Kudamattom.
