In February, Joan Laporta — re-elected Barcelona president last month — claimed that the club had rejected a 250 million euro offer from PSG for Lamine Yamal in the summer of 2024.

Had it been accepted, the purported offer would have made the wonderkid the most valuable footballer in history, eclipsing the 222 million euro PSG had forked out for Neymar in 2017. It would have also gone a long way towards addressing Barcelona’s financial struggles and economic uncertainty, but the club held firm; Yamal was deemed to be priceless.
