Popularly known as the Egg Town Namakkal houses over 1,500 poultry units and produces 6-7 crore eggs a day, fulfilling the egg needs of the State and employing thousands. Apart from poultry, lorry services are another main employment generator. As for spiritual tourism, the Namakkal Anjaneyar and Narasimha Swamy temples attract several lakhs of people every year.

The Namakkal constituency comprises Namakkal taluk, a portion of Sendamangalam, Mohanur taluk, Namakkal Corporation and Mohanur town panchayat. The Dravidian majors the DMK and the AIADMK both have strong presence in this constituency.
