The State government on Thursday decided toextend the relief to owners of properties in illegal/unauthorised layouts that is now under B-Khata in the jurisdiction of urban local bodies across Karnataka. While about 10 lakh properties are estimated to benefit, the quantum of money to be collected by the State government to regularise the properties has not been estimated.

The relief is on the lines of an earlier announcement for properties in the Greater Bengaluru Authority region where the government is levying 5% of the guidance value to regularise sites. The scheme does not include regularisation of buildings that have deviated from building bylaws.

According to Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil, the scheme will be extended to B-Khata properties that includes sites, buildings, apartments, and flats that have not received approval from the respective planning authorities. The A-Khata will be issued subject to these properties taking approval from planning authorities, he added.

He said that the proposal is to restrict unauthorised developments and in the interest of public. A note said that it aims at restricting the sale of properties in layouts that have been formed without approval from the planning authorities, and to bring those layouts that have already been developed under the legal ambit.

When asked about the conditions, Mr. Patil said: “If we are to regularise, we will also penalise.”
