The Ernakulam district city committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging violation of norms in the use of a horse at the conclusion of the public campaign of T.J. Vinod, candidate of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Ernakulam Assembly constituency on Tuesday. K.S. Shaiju, president of the BJP’s Ernakulam city district committee, alleged that the act was in violation of the guidelines issued by the EC prohibiting the use of animals in election campaign. He alleged that the high-decibel sound of crackers and huge crowd at the end of the public campaigning may have caused distress to the animal. The Congress candidate had arrived on a horse at the ‘kottikalasam’ held on Tuesday, he alleged.
