Erode recorded a temperature of 40.6°C on Wednesday (March 8), but it failed to have any effect on the political parties and their cadre canvassing votes for the April 23 Assembly election. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 3.2°C and 4.2°C above normal respectively, while humidity was 5% higher than usual. Heatwave conditions prevailed across the district, including the hill areas of Thalavadi and Kadambur, throughout Wednesday, affecting daytime movement of people and reducing public activity during peak hours.
