A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment in a POCSO case registered in 2020.

According to police, the accused Pathan Rahmatullah Khan of Nandyal town used to frequently visit the house of the complainant in Panyam and befriend the latter’s 16-year-old daughter and exploit her sexually. As the girl got pregnant, the accused took her to Nellore and threatened to kill her if she complained about him to any one.

In November 2020, a case was registered against Rahmatullah Khan and he was arrested by the police. However, he later secured bail from the court. Since 2021, he did not appear before the court, following which an Non-Bailable Warrant was issued against him.

On the instructions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Suneel Sheoran, special teams were formed to arrest Rahmatullah Khan. The police arrested him in October last year from Gulbarga in Karnataka.

Special court for POCSO cases judge A. Rajendra Babu convicted and sentenced Rahmatullah Khan to 20 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 fine, on Thursday. He was also sentenced to five years imprisonment, which would run concurrently, and another fine of ₹50,000 imposed on him for kidnap of the girl.
