Talks between Ladakh’s civil society groups and the Union Home Ministry resumed in New Delhi after last month’s deadly protests demanding Statehood. Officials hinted at possible safeguards under Article 371, but the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance reiterated their demand for inclusion under the Sixth Schedule. The groups also sought the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk. With tensions high since Ladakh lost its special status in 2019, the region awaits clarity on its political future and autonomy.
