In a move aimed at ushering in greater transparency and delivering pilgrim-centric governance, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is mulling the establishment of a state-of-the-art centralised administrative complex in Tirumala. The proposed initiative unfolds against the backdrop of mounting pilgrim inflow, with the hill shrine recording over 75,000 footfalls on an average every day. The sheer volume has long exposed the limitations of a decentralised administrative framework, wherein over 50 departments tasked with delivering a wide spectrum of pilgrim services operate from scattered locations across the temple town. At present, essential services, encompassing accommodation, darshan management, annadanam, engineering, health, vigilance, security and medical, function in different locations, compelling pilgrims to traverse considerable distances to access multiple facilities, besides posing operational challenges, particularly in ensuring swift inter-departmental coordination during peak periods. It is in this context that TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, along with a contingent of senior officials, undertook a comprehensive field inspection on Tuesday to evaluate potential sites for the project. Among the prominent locations surveyed was the sprawling tract of land in the vicinity of the Ram Baigaicha bus station, located a short distance from the main temple, which has primarily emerged as a frontrunner for the ambitious project. Envisaged as an integrated administrative hub, the proposed complex seeks to consolidate all pilgrim service departments under a single roof, thereby eliminating procedural bottlenecks and significantly reducing the logistical burden on devotees. The initiative is also expected to introduce a higher degree of accountability and operational transparency, aligning with TTD’s broader objective of modernising governance mechanisms, while remaining rooted in its spiritual mandate. Modelled on the lines of the existing administrative building edifice in Tirupati, the proposed Tirumala complex is poised to become a cornerstone of the institution’s service delivery mechanism.
