Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader from Attappady and party’s former area secretary V.R. Ramakrishnan has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mr. Ramakrishnan was in news recently when the party’s Agali local secretary threatened him over phone for contesting the local body election as a rebel. Mr. Ramakrishnan had been the face of the CPI(M) in Attappady for many years. He had been the Attappady area secretary for six years in two terms, and the Jellippara local secretary for 12 years. CPI(M) leaders in Attappady said that Mr. Ramakrishnan was expelled from the party four years ago.
