A six-year-old girl was allegedly beaten by her aunt at Kattubadipalem village in NTR District. Villagers alerted the Village Sachivalayam and WD&CW staff, who rescued the girl and admitted her to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada. According to reports, the family migrated from Bihar 20 days ago, and the aunt allegedly beat the orphan girl severely for refusing to go to work. Mahila Police, Shrutilaya, and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of NTR District rescued the girl, said Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson K. Suvartha. “The girl was suffering from multiple injuries to her head and other parts of her body. Specialised Adoption Agency Manager B. Deepika and DCPU officer Rajeshwara Rao were instructed to monitor the girl’s health condition,” Ms. Suvartha told The Hindu on Tuesday (April 7, 2026). A complaint has been lodged with the G. Konduru police, and the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department has been directed to inquire into the family’s status and other details of the girl, the CWC chairperson said. “CWC has ordered the DCPU, Anganwadi, and Sachivalayam staff to submit a Social Investigation Report (SIR) on the girl’s family. All measures are being taken to provide better treatment to the girl,” Mr. Rajeshwara Rao said.
