The State Government has resolved to bring out a comprehensive education policy to improve the quality of education and functioning of educational institutions at various levels.

A high-powered committee has been appointed to study and recommend the provisions to be incorporated in the policy, being developed on the lines of the National Education Policy (NEP) and it will be announced soon, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said.

He explained the initiatives launched by the Congress Government for improving the education sector to make it globally competitive to Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur, who called on him on Thursday.

Mr. Revanth Reddy briefed the visiting dignitary about the reforms ushered in in the education sector along with the setting up of Young India Integrated Residential Schools. Each of the integrated schools, being developed on sprawling 25-acre land, envisaged imparting education to all sections of students, including the SC, ST, BC and minority communities under one roof on the lines of mini universities. Each of these schools was being constructed at an estimated ₹200 crore.

The Government was focussed on strengthening school education and had taken steps to include primary education in Government sector on a par with the private schools. Modalities were being worked out to ensure transport facilities to pre-primary students in rural areas while steps had been taken to upgrade the ITIs as advanced technology centres, which were being set up in all the Assembly constituencies.

The Himachal Pradesh Minister expressed keenness in understanding the concept behind the integrated schools and requested the State Government to provide a comprehensive report about the issue. He appreciated the Chief Minister’s initiatives to strengthen the education sector.
