Pakistan’s efforts to end West Asia war approaching ‘critical’ stage: Iran’s envoy

Pakistan-led peace efforts to end the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran were approaching a “critical” stage, Iran’s envoy to Islamabad said on Tuesday (April 7, 2026).

Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam’s comments came amid reports that Pakistan was making hectic efforts to bring the U.S.-Iran conflict to an end by arranging a ceasefire and following it up with detailed talks.

Pakistan’s “positive and productive endeavours in Good Will and Good Office to stop the war is approaching a critical, sensitive stage…,” the Iranian diplomat said in a post on X.

He ended his brief statement with muted optimism by writing: “Stay Tuned for more.”

Earlier, in an interview with the state-run IRNA news agency, Mr. Moghadam said a complete cessation of war, accompanied by guarantees against renewed aggression, remains Iran’s maximum demand in ongoing peace diplomacy efforts.

Mr. Moghadam said Iran prioritises diplomacy but insists that any negotiated outcome must ensure a permanent resolution to the conflict.

The ambassador also warned that proposals lacking credible guarantees would fail to address the root causes of the conflict and could risk further instability.

Mr. Moghadam reiterated that Iran remains committed to diplomacy but stressed that any meaningful peace process must lead to a comprehensive and lasting end to the conflict, rather than a temporary ceasefire.

The Iranian diplomat’s comments came a day after Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry refused to comment on reports that Islamabad proposed a framework to end the U.S.-Iran conflict while confirming that the peace process was alive.

State-run Pakistan TV on Monday (April 7, 2026) said that Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi declined to confirm or deny reports that Islamabad proposed a framework to end the ongoing U.S.-Israel war on Iran, saying the peace process is ongoing.

“There have been several reports of a 45-day ceasefire offer, or 15-point exchange. We do not comment on these individual, specific incidents,” Mr. Andrabi said.

Earlier, there were reports in the Western media that Pakistan delivered a peace plan to Washington and Tehran, focusing on a ceasefire followed by detailed talks to end the conflict.

Pakistan launched its efforts last month to end the war, and at one point, it was close to hosting the officials from the U.S. and Iran, but it could not materialise due to “maximalist” positions taken by the rival sides, according to officials.

However, Pakistan made fresh efforts after hosting a quadrilateral meeting for Foreign Ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt and Pakistan in Islamabad, followed by a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Mr. Dar and Wang issued a five-point peace plan based on a ceasefire and talks for ending the conflict.
