BRS General Secretary and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar has alleged that the Congress Government is conspiring to stop the Opposition party from fighting on people’s issues, and as part of it, planning to jail former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the government was planning to fix them in one false case or another and that was the reason why it had named former Intelligence officer T. Prabhakar Rao as A1 in the alleged phone-tapping cases. The mistake of Mr. Rao was to discharge lawful duties entrusted to him.

Mr. Praveen Kumar stated that the former Intelligence officer was being pressurised in every possible way to name KCR, KTR and Harish Rao in the case while being examined. The government was running the phone-tapping case as a television soap opera or daily serial since the SIT formed first did not reveal anything as expected by it (government).

Another SIT was formed recently to prolong the investigation, the former IPS officer said, adding that the system of spies was in vogue from the ancient days and laws were brought in from the 19th Century on how phones could be tapped. He alleged that it was going on even now as the Chief Minister was getting his Cabinet colleagues phones 24×7.

Examining a senior IPS officer in police custody for 14 days was unprecedented in the country and the government had harassed even his family members and relatives by serving them notices and making them wait for long hours in the name of examination/investigation of the case. As phone-tapping was done lawfully even the deletion of tapping records was provided for in the Act concerned, Mr. Praveen Kumar noted.
