RAJESH A total of 135 candidates across six constituencies of Kanniyakumari district and 188 across six constituencies of Thoothukudi district have filed nominations for the forthcoming general assembly elections. Although nominations for the election are scheduled from March 30 to April 6 in Tamil Nadu, nominations were accepted for only four days such as March 30, April 2, April 4 and April 6, due to public holidays. On the last day of nominations, major candidates of political parties filed across the constituencies of both Kanniyakumari and Thootukudi districts. In Nagercoil, BJP candidate and incumbent MLA M.R. Gandhi, accompanied by BJP National Secretary Arvind Menon, filed nomination at the Revenue Divisional Office in Nagercoil. Along with him, 9 other candidates have filed nominations for Nagercoil constituency on the final day making the total to 34 nominations, during the nomination period. For the Kanniyakumari constituency AIADMK candidate Thalavai Sundaram and DMK candidate R. Mahesh filed their nomination and a total of 23 candidates had filed nominations in the given period. Colachel Congress candidate Tharahai Cuthbert and BJP candidate T. Shiva Kumar have filed their nominations. A total of 20 nominations have been received for Colachel constituency. Similarly Vilavancode candidates S. Vijayadharani of BJP and T.T.Praveen of Congress filed nominations and a total of 20 candidates filed nominations in the four days. For Killiyoor constituency S. Rajeh Kumar of Congress has filed nominations on the final day. A total of 19 nominations have been received for the Killiyoor assembly constituency. The Padmanabhapuram constituency has received 19 nominations in the given period. In Thoothukudi district, Minister Geetha Jeevan of DMK and S.T. Chellapandiyan of AIADMK filed nominations on the final day. Tiruchendur constituency BJP candidate R.M. Radhakrishnan, Congress candidate of Srivaikuntam Oorvasi S. Amirtharaj has filed their nominations. A total of 33 candidates for Thoothukudi, 28 for Vilathikulam, 35 for Tiruchendur, 28 for Srivaikuntam, 28 for Ottapidaram and 36 for Kovilpatti have filed their nominations for the upcoming elections.
