A total of 188 nominations have been filed for the five Assembly segments in the district.

The number of nominations filed: Tirunelveli – 37, Ambasamudram – 38, Palayamkottai – 32, Nanguneri – 44, and Radhapuram – 37.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu of DMK and third gender candidate Vandana filed their nominations for Radhapuram constituency on Monday and Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab of DMK, seeking his re-election, filed his nomination for this segment.

Mr. Appavu has declared movable assets worth ₹34.49 lakh in his name and ₹1.16 crore worth movable assets in his wife’s name and immovable assets worth ₹60.85 lakh in his name and ₹29.50 lakh in his wife’s name. While he has to repay loans worth ₹23.17 lakh, his wife has to repay ₹1.91 crore loan.

Mr. Abdul Wahab has declared movable assets worth ₹39.56 lakh in his name, ₹39.61 lakh in his wife’s name and ₹37 lakh in his two dependents’ names. Mr. Wahab has immoveable assets worth ₹6.46 crore in his name, ₹15.25 lakh in his wife’s name and ₹15 lakh in one of his dependent’s name. He has to repay ₹4.84 lakh loan, while one of his dependent has ₹23 lakh loan.

Listing out the development projects like roads, drinking water, ration shops, implemented in Radhapuram Assembly constituency since 2021, Mr. Appavu, after filing the nomination, said his constituency had immensely benefited during the last five years after Chief Minister M.K. Stalin assumed office in 2021.

Mr. Appavu, a four-time MLA from this segment, takes on BJP’s P. Balakrishnan, who also filed his nomination on Monday, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’s K. Satheesh Christopher and Naam Thamizhar Katchi’s Girija Thamairaipandian.

Mr. Balakrishnan has declared movable assets worth ₹98.66 lakh in his name, ₹1.34 crore in his wife’s name, and ₹1. 34 crore in the name of his three dependents. He has also declared immovable assets worth ₹24.47 crore in his name, ₹6.08 crore in his wife’s name and ₹1.35 crore in the name of three dependents.

Mr. Balakrishnan has to pay loan amounting to₹8.71 crore while his wife has to repay ₹60.68 lakh. Moreover, his dependents have to pay loan to the tune of ₹2.81 crore.

As the filing of nomination came to an end on Monday, a total of 188 nominations – Male – 159, Female – 28 and Others – 1 – have been field in the district for the 5 Assembly segments– Tirunelveli – 37 (Male – 33 and Female – 4), Ambasamudram – 38 (Male – 33 and Female – 5), Palayamkottai – 32 (Male – 31 and Female – 1), Nanguneri – 44 (Male – 35 and Female – 9) and Radhapuram – 37 (Male – 27, Female – 9 and Others – 1).

In Tenkasi district, 114 nominations were filed on Monday. In all, 180 nominations – Male -152 and Female – 28 – have been filed for the 5 Assembly constituencies in the district – Sankarankovil (Reserve) – 32 (Male – 26, Female – 6), Vasudevanallur (Reserve) – 33 (Male – 27, Female – 6), Kadayanallur – 39 (Male – 32 and Female – 7), Tenkasi – 47 (Male – 41 and Female – 6) and Alangulam – 29 (Male 26 and Female – 3).
