Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: UDF candidate Sandeep Varier allegedly assaulted

Tension escalated in the Trikaripur constituency after United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Sandeep Varier was allegedly assaulted during a campaign visit to Nehru College, Padanakkad, on Monday afternoon (April 6).

UDF leaders alleged that activists of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) obstructed Mr. Varier during his campus visit as part of electioneering and later engaged in a scuffle that escalated into a physical assault. The situation reportedly worsened when party workers accompanying the candidate intervened.

Mr. Varier and a few of his supporters sustained minor injuries in the incident and were given first aid at a nearby hospital. The police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

While the SFI has not formally responded to the allegations, sources said the exact reason behind the clash remains unclear.
