Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister and DMK candidate R. Rajendran, on April 6, 2026 (Monday), filed his nomination to contest in the Salem (North) constituency.

The Minister, who reached the taluk office in Hasthampatti along with the functionaries of the DMK alliance parties, filed his nomination with the Returning Officer.

Mr. Rajendran told the reporters the AIADMK had pledged itself to the BJP. In the past five years, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin implemented various people welfare schemes. He has announced ₹8,000 coupon scheme for women, ₹ 10 lakh worth of insurance, free laptops for 35 lakh students and houses for 10 lakh people. These welfare schemes and the election promises made by the Chief Minister will ensure the victory of the DMK, he added.

Candidates from prominent political parties, including those from AIADMK, DMK, Congress, and TVK, filed their nominations on Monday. A total of 215 candidates filed nominations in 11 Assembly constituencies in the Salem district, including 31 in Salem (West), 27 in Sankari, 24 in Edappadi, 23 in Mettur, 21 in Veerapandi, 20 in Salem North, 19 in Salem South, 15 in Omalur, 12 each in Yercaud (ST) and Gangavalli (SC) and 11 in Attur (SC), on the day. 

As many as 355 candidates, including 72 women, have filed their nominations for the 11 Assembly constituencies in Salem district, from March 30 to April 6.
