Sivaganga District Election Officer and Collector K. Porkodi has warned against involvement of children under age of 14 in any type of election related works.

Accordingly, all political parties and candidates in Sivaganga district must refrain from engaging children in any election-related tasks. Further, it must be ensured that no provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, were violated, she stated.

“Additionally, during the Tamil Nadu Assembly General Election, all political parties, candidates, election agents, and polling/counting agents must strictly follow the current guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR),” she instructed.

Political parties must not use children in any form of election campaign or rally, including the distribution of posters or pamphlets. Children should also not be involved in shouting slogans, campaign rallies, or election meetings.

She stated that all political leaders and candidates must not use children for election campaigning, canvassing, rallies, or yatras in any manner, including carrying children in their arms, taking them along in vehicles, or making them a part of any promotional activities.
