Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) P. Narayana on Monday (April 6, 2026) said that the State government is committed to ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation facilities for every household in the State by 2030, with an estimated budget of ₹14,000 crore.

The Minister was reviewing civic works related to the Chittoor Municipal Corporation here on Monday. He said that the infrastructure development had been given top priority by the government and the works have been accelerated across as many as 123 urban local bodies. He observed that LED street lighting had already been implemented State-wide, and plans were underway to procure an additional 10 lakh LED lights for further strengthening urban amenities.

Referring to the sanitation facilities, the Minister said that the government had set a specified target to clear 153 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste across the State by May. In Chittoor, over 2.4 lakh tonnes of waste had already been removed from the dumping yard, with the remaining to be cleared soon.

“Under the AMRUT scheme, works worth ₹29.7 crore have been initiated in Chittoor. For creating new drainage infrastructure and strengthening the existing network, ₹82 crore is being earmarked, and ₹39.21 crore for the used water management projects,” the Minister said.

Chittoor MLA G. Jagan Mohan, district Collector Sumit Kumar, and senior officials of the Municipal Corporation were present.
