The identity of a woman whose partially burnt body was found by the roadside near Kalmud village in Kamalapur taluk of Kalaburagi district on Saturday has been established, according to the police. The 57-year-old deceased woman has been identified as Jyoti Chandrashekhar Kapale, a teacher in a government school and a resident of Anand Nagar in Kalaburagi. She was originally from Wanjarkhed village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district. According to the police, Jyoti Kapale, who was unmarried, was residing in a rented house in Basavakalyan for work and used to visit Kalaburagi during holidays. She attended school on April 2 and returned to Kalaburagi the next day in view of the Good Friday holiday. However, she is said to have left her house later that day but did not return. The body was found on the outskirts of Kalmud village, 40 km from Kalaburagi. Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu and Additional Superintendent of Police Mahesh Meghannavar visited the spot for inspection. The police said that chilli powder was found scattered near the body and there were injuries on the face. Based on preliminary investigation, the police suspected that the victim may have been attacked with a sharp weapon. The police have registered a case. Multiple teams have been formed to track down the accused. A detailed investigation is under way. Forensic teams have collected material evidence from the scene which is being examined to aid investigation. The police said that all angles are being probed into and efforts are on to identify and apprehend the culprits.
