The police on Thursday secured two persons on charge of bludgeoning a murder case accused to death near Selvapuram in Coimbatore on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as S. Praveenkumar (20) alias ‘Japan’ of Kempatty Colony.

The police said Praveenkumar had been arrested in a murder case reported in the city on September 7, 2024. He has been out on bail.

They said two persons, namely Manoj and Kannan, attacked Praveenkumar when he was consuming alcohol with friends in a secluded area at Balaji Avenue late on Wednesday. The assailants bludgeoned him to death using heavy stones and fled the spot.

The police said it was a retaliatory strike for the 2024 killing of R. Gokulakrishnan during Deepavali celebrations at Selvapuram. The police had arrested Praveenkumar, his friends Chandru, Suriya, Nagaraj, and Sanjay, all from Kempatty Colony, for the murder.

A senior police officer said the police were investigating suspected involvement of two more persons in the murder.
