AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at an election campaign in Puducherry on Sunday.

Campaigning in Puducherry, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said voting for the DMK would lead to the “looting” of the income generated from the liquor business in the Union Territory.

“The DMK government in Tamil Nadu is known for corruption and commission from the liquor business in the State. Everyone knows about the TASMAC scam. Puducherry has huge liquor business and the DMK has an eye on the resources. Voting for DMK will lead to the looting of the U.T. government’s income,” he said while canvassing for the two AIADMK candidates contesting as part of the National Democratic Alliance in Puducherry.

Taking a dig at the INDIA bloc over the seat-sharing tussle among its constituent partners, the AIADMK general secretary said the nature of the alliance was different in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The INDIA bloc partners were contesting against each other in various constituencies in the Union Territory. The Left parties were not even a part of the bloc for the Assembly polls in Puducherry, he said.

“Mr. Stalin always talks about the INDIA alliance. In Puducherry, the alliance is only for name’s sake. People should not vote for such political parties that cannot even arrive at an understanding on seat-sharing,” he said.

Supporting the demand for Statehood by political parties in Puducherry, he said the AIADMK would strive to obtain the status for the territory. For its overall development, he said Puducherry must have a government aligned with the policies and programmes of the party in power at the Centre. The Union Territory depended on the Centre for the execution of development and welfare schemes, he said.
