District Election Officer and Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar convened a meeting with representatives of Resident Welfare Associations at the Collectorate on Saturday (April 4, 2026) in connection with the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and called for measures to ensure 100% voter turnout.

He outlined the role of the associations in facilitating election-related activities. Booth-level officers (BLOs) should be allowed access to residential premises to distribute voter information slips, and awareness programmes under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative should be carried out within apartment complexes, he said.

He directed that political parties, candidates, and their agents should not be permitted to distribute money or freebies inside residential areas to influence voters. Any violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) should be reported to the district control room at 0422-2300156, 0422-2300157, 0422-2300158, 0422-2300159 or the toll-free number 1800-425-0086.

The Collector called for full participation of voters in apartment complexes and gated communities to improve the overall poll percentage, and stressed the need to maintain proper records of occupants in such premises.

He said candidates and political parties may be allowed to canvas in residential areas in accordance with election norms, and added that polling teams visiting such premises should be extended necessary cooperation.

Separately, the Collector held a meeting with officials of banks and instructed them to alert the district administration about any suspicious financial transactions. He said such reports should be submitted on a daily basis.
