The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has bagged the Khanapur municipality in Nirmal district with the support of BRS.

BJP candidate A. Maunika was elected as the chairperson of the civic body with the backing of BRS. BRS candidate Mohd. Shoaib was elected as the Vice-Chairperson with the support of BJP.

In the recently held municipal elections, the BJP and BRS had won four wards each in the 12-member civic body.

The Congress bagged three wards and an independent candidate won one ward.

According to sources, the indirect elections to the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts were postponed last month due to lack of quorum. The Congress made efforts to gain control of the civic body with the help of the independent candidate and an ex-officio member vote, but in vain.
