A 22-year-old man was charred to death after the car he was travelling in crashed and burst into flames at Thirumalayampalayam near Coimbatore late on Wednesday (January 7, 2026). The police said Vimalraj of Kovaipudur, who had been working in a car dealership at Saibaba Colony, died in the crash while travelling with his colleagues Akash (22) of K.G. Chavadi and Murali (24) of Ettimadai in a test-drive vehicle. They said that Akash drove the car with Vimalraj in the front seat and Murali in the rear seat. The car caught fire after ramming a steel pipe that had been lying on the side of the road. While Akash and Murali managed to escape, Vimalraj got trapped inside the car and died.
