Muhammed Sulaiman, national president of the Indian National League (INL), has said that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is allegedly attempting “in secrecy” to form unholy alliances and adjustments with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Assembly polls.

In a statement issued here on Saturday (April 4), Mr. Sulaiman said it was paradoxical that Congress and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders allege a “deal” between the CPI(M) and RSS, while overlooking recent political associations in Kerala involving Congress, the Muslim League, and the BJP—thereby compromising the secular legacy of Kerala’s progressive society for the sake of a few seats in the struggle for power.

“Even Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has pointed out that Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan attended an RSS function. Hindu Aikya Vedi general secretary R.V. Babu had also disclosed that Mr. Satheesan approached the RSS seeking support in 2001 and 2006,” the INL president said.

Stating that Kerala is witnessing the emergence of a new political formation and a tripartite contest involving the Left Democratic Front, UDF, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), he observed that there was no significant anti-incumbency factor prevailing in the State, and the people aspired for the continuation of LDF rule under the leadership of Mr. Vijayan. “The INL firmly believes that only Left parties and fronts can effectively confront the challenges posed by Hindutva, fascist and communal forces,” Mr. Sulaiman added.
