A 35-year-old man from Parangimalai in Kanchipuram district, identified as Saravanan, died on Friday, while trekking in the Vellingiri Hills in Coimbatore. Saravanan had gone with eight friends to worship the Shiva Linga on the seventh hill. The pilgrimage involves a 6.5 km-long trek from the Vellingiri Andavar temple at Poondi at the base to the summit, where Lord Shiva is worshipped in Swayambhu (self-manifested) form.
