YSRCP leader Vanitha alleges deterioration in women’s safety in A.P.

Former Home Minister and YSRCP leader Taneti Vanitha has alleged that the law and order situation, particularly women’s safety, has deteriorated in Andhra Pradesh during the tenure of the coalition government.

Addressing the media at Gopalapuram on Saturday, she claimed that crimes against women and children, especially sexual offences, had increased after the change of guard in the State in 2024.  

Referring to the recent incident reported from Macherla in Palnadu district, the YSRCP leader described the alleged rape attempt on a government employee at knifepoint as ‘heinous’. “Even women living alone in their homes are not safe,” she said.  

Claiming that the incident occurred under the influence of alcohol, she blamed the proliferation of liquor and unauthorised belt shops for the ‘rise in the crimes’. 

She also linked the availability of ganja to the increase in criminal activities.  

Questioning Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, Ms. Vanitha asked why they had not responded strongly to the repeated incidents of crimes against women.  

She alleged that the police were failing to register complaints made by the victims and ‘targeting the leaders of the opposition parties.

The former Home Minister claimed that during the YSRCP’s tenure, women felt protected and the policing standards were higher. She demanded immediate justice for the Macherla victim and strict punishment for the accused.
