The BJP State president, Nainar Nagenthran, has expelled the party’s Thanjavur South District vice-president, R. Muralidharan, on charges of indulging in activities that brought disrepute to the party. In a statement issued on Friday, he said Mr. Muralidharan’s recent activities breached party rules and discipline, warranting his expulsion from the party. Mr. Muralidharan had filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the Thanjavur Assembly constituency, and had also commenced canvassing of votes.
