The residents of Hosanagar taluk have resolved to take out a two-day march, beginning on Sunday, April 5, demanding that the Hosanagar Assembly Constituency be restored.

Hundreds of people, including elected representatives, former legislators, and seers of various mutts, are expected to take part in the 45-km-long march.

Hosanagar was an assembly constituency until the assembly elections held in 2004. However, following the delimitation, the areas of the taluk were merged with the Tirthahalli and Sagar constituencies during the elections held in 2008.

The residents of the taluk argue that since 2008, the issues and problems concerning the taluk have failed to attract the attention of the government, as the constituency has lost its existence. They argue that the government hardly showed any interest in taking up development works in the taluk, though the people there sacrificed their land for the power projects over the decades.

The residents have formed a committee to raise the demand for a separate constituency. The committee will take out the march from Nagara to Ripponpet. Former legislator Swamy Rao and the seers of various mutts would take part in the march. Vinayak Prabhu, a resident of Varamballi in Hosanagar taluk, said that the committee had invited all elected representatives to take part in the march. “The march will start at Nagara, and participants will be in Hosanagar on the first day. The next day, we will march up to Ripponpet, covering a total of 45 km,” he said.
