The searches are being carried out at 15 locations in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur and Motihari; West Bengal’s Kolkata; Ernakulam, Pandalam, Adoor, and Kodur in Kerala; Chennai in Tamil Nadu; Gujarat’s Rajkot; Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. “While the scam was initially detected in the name of Indian Railways, the investigation revealed that it covers over 40 other government organisations and departments including Forest, Railway, Indian Post, Income Tax, High Court, Public Works Department, Bihar government, Delhi Development Authority, Rajasthan Secretariat, and others,” said an official. The gang used fake email accounts impersonating official government domains to send fraudulent joining letters. To gain trust, the fraudsters made initial salary payments for two to three months to some victims, who were placed in various roles in the Railways and other organisations.
